Better than Good!

Dear Friend,

Whenever someone asked Dad how he was doing, he would automatically reply: “Better than good!”

He would say it with a smile and with enthusiasm behind it. Before you knew it, the mood had changed and gone up just a little bit.

The truth matters – just saying

Dear Friend,

What is going on in our world? It seems like more and more we hear things like: “Whatever people believe about who they are is ok. That is their truth for themselves. Who are we to contradict them?”

And then the next thing we hear is: “All we need is love.

Just business

Dear Laurie,

I received a startling email yesterday from a rental car company.

It said: "You have a large balance of over $500 with us and, due to no contact and no payment, we are going to have to alert the authorities today that the car has been stolen.

BAAM!

Dear Friend,

I have heard it said that an average company with a lot of momentum succeeds beyond its ability, and a great company without any momentum performs average, at best. Momentum creates opportunity and success.

Our personal life is the same.

The Gratitude Journey

I would like to invite you on a journey with me. Dad said this:

"Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for."
Zig Ziglar

Research done by Phillippa Lally and released in the European Journal of Social Psychology indicates that it takes 66 days to form a new habit.

Gravy on Top

Dear Friend,

You have heard this expression, or ones like it. It means “a little bit extra.”

In Louisiana Cajun country they call it lagniappe. It’s the bonus, the unexpected.

It’s the cherry on the sundae. The handwritten thank you note.

Just Start

Dear Friend,

Something big is on your heart.

Just Start.

I don’t know how.
I have never done that before.
What if I look like a fool?

Just Start.

Other people do this sort of thing, not me.
I barely know anything about it.

Input Determines Outcome

Dear Friend,

I have learned a lot of lessons in my life. Some I have had to learn more than once.

Perhaps the biggest lesson I learned from Dad was that when I choose the right input into my mind, I am also choosing the outcome of that input.

A Little Extra

Dear Friend,

What if, in every interaction, you gave “a little extra”?

At lunch with a friend you finish the meal with a simple phrase: “I don’t think I have told you how much these times with you mean to me. I am grateful for our friendship.

Do I have to?

I remember my early teenage years. Boy, did I love to sleep!

Like most teenagers, I was a professional sleeper!

Sunday morning would roll around and at 7:30 a.m., Dad would come in and wake me up.

“Son, it’s time to get up and get ready for church.

The Number One Lesson

Dear Friend,

Think of all the things in life you have learned. What would you say is the number one lesson you learned?

Here is mine:

"What you feed your mind determines your appetite." Tom Ziglar

I took this from Dad’s quote:

"You are what you are and where you are because of what has gone into your mind.

The Home Court Advantage

Dear Friend,

Have you noticed that when two teams are playing and they are evenly matched that the home team wins more than 50% of the time? That is the home court advantage.

Having a great relationship with your spouse and with your kids is also an advantage.
