A Little Extra

A Little Extra

Dear Friend,

What if, in every interaction, you gave “a little extra”?

At lunch with a friend you finish the meal with a simple phrase: “I don’t think I have told you how much these times with you mean to me. I am grateful for our friendship.”

At Chick-fil-A they give a little extra by simply saying, “My pleasure” when you say thank you.

I ate at an Italian restaurant that was highly recommended in another city. The food was good, but what stood out was the owner. He had on a chef’s outfit and went table to table, chatting and thanking the guests for coming. He also left a little gift, a taste of an appetizer.

I watched Dad treat the hotel workers serving banquet meals with gratitude and appreciation. Guess who got the biggest dessert at the table?

I have always thought it would be fun to take over a struggling eating place for a day and just wow the customers with a huge warm welcome and a little bonus during their meal.

When you think about it, it doesn’t take much to stand out these days, does it?

You could hold open a door for everyone. Carry a bag. Send a kind text.

Dad said one of the secrets to success was doing just “a little bit extra” every chance you got.

Put that proposal in a little bit nicer folder.
Show up early and offer to help set up.
Stay a few minutes late and offer to clean up.
Send a hand-written note.

I would love to hear how you are going to do “a little bit extra” today. Even better, tell me what you did, and what happened when you did it! Now, that would be doing “a little bit extra.”

You are Born To Win, so go ahead and Live To Win!

Tom

P.S. What if you made doing “a little bit extra” a habit? Hint – this is the simplest way to move from ordinary to extraordinary.

P.P.S. Today is Day Ten of my 66 Days of Gratitude. Today I am grateful for Billy Cox, sushi (numnumnumnumnum), and traveling.
