They Grow Up So Fast

They Grow Up So Fast

Dear Friend,

I remember it like it was yesterday. My daughter, Alexandra, had just celebrated her ninth birthday. We had a party with her friends and the day of cake, and presents, and fun, was almost done.

I was putting her to bed, telling her a story about Wally the Weasel, our imaginary superhero friend. When the story was done, I looked at her and said:

"Alexandra, you are nine years old today. Do you realize that you have now lived at home what will most likely be for half of the time that you live at home? In nine short years you will be going off to college."

She looked up at me and smiled, not really knowing what it all meant. In the blink of an eye she went off to college, and now she is 21 and almost done with her junior year. Where did all of the time go?

Mom just turned 88 years young. I have been married over 28 years. Time goes by so fast.

One of the lessons I learned from Dad was this: "To a child, love is spelled T.I.M.E." Zig Ziglar

In today’s crazy gogo world of instant messaging, social media, texting, and on and on and on, we need now, more than ever, to remember this simple truth: spending time with those we love is the greatest thing we can do.

Put the smartphone down.
Turn off the TV.
Have a conversation.
Hold hands.

They grow up so fast.

Dad recorded a program called Raising Positive Kids in a Negative World. If you have kids or grandkids, then this program is exactly what you need. Like Dad said, "Our kids are our hope for the future, but we are the hope for our kids’ future."
