Father’s Day

Father’s Day

As a father, I have three views of fatherhood:

My earthly dad.
My heavenly Father.
Being a dad myself.

In my mind, when I think of fatherhood, this is the mental picture I try to create.

My daughter is now 21 years old. I can remember when she was four or five years old. (She owned me!)

Sometimes she would come and sit in my lap and after 30 seconds or so she would ask me for a favor. I would get a big smile on my face! I knew I had been played!

Sometimes she would come and sit in my lap and after five minutes or so I would ask her "Baby, why are you in my lap?" And she would say, "I just want to be close to you, Dad." At that moment she could have asked for ANYTHING and I would have given it to her.

How do we treat our heavenly Father? Do we get close to get something? If we get close so we can be close, don't you think He will give us beyond measure what we could ever have imagined?

If you are blessed to have your earthly father still around, I encourage you to get close just to be close to him. Hugs, holding hands, listening and loving are all we fathers really want.

If you have lost your father, or never had a relationship with your early father because of death or something worse, then I encourage you to draw close to your heavenly Father. My dad lost his dad when he was five years old. He never knew his father - yet he became an incredible father, not just to his kids, but to thousands around the world because of his teachings. How did this happen? Dad understood that earthly fathers sometimes leave too soon or, worse, do harm. But he also understood that our heavenly Father never fails us, and because he chose to draw close to Him he became the greatest earthly father a son could ever have.

I miss you, Dad, but I will be with you again and I am thankful that what you taught me guides and directs me every day.

Draw close to the fathers in your life today, and your heavenly Father.

You are Born To Win, so go ahead and Live To Win!
