What, How, and Why

What, How, and Why

Dear Friend,

I get a lot of feedback and questions from people concerning “what” they do for a living. Sometimes they are looking for advice on if they should change their job or career path. Sometimes they don’t feel that “what” they do is meaningful.

Here is something for you to think about:

The “what” you do doesn’t matter nearly as much as the “how” you do it and the “why” you do it.

The reality is, you can make an “ordinary” job extraordinary simply by “how” and “why” you do it.

When you know your “why” and maximize the “how,” then suddenly the “what” has a tendency to grow into something bigger and better than you could have imagined.

Be careful, the reverse is also true. You could have the perfect “what” job, but if you don’t care about the “how,” and you don’t have a “why,” then you could end up looking for another job!

Give 100% today! Your “why” is depending on it!

Oh, I thought you might like this story. A few weeks ago I wrote about Dad’s response when somebody would ask him how he was doing. Here is a reply from one of our readers who was a neighbor of Dad’s:

"Tom,

I used to live on Winding Hollow in Willow Bend Lakes. I would be out in the front yard and, on occasions, an older gentleman would be out for a rather brisk walk. I would say, ‘Hi, how are you?’ and the response was always the same (without breaking stride): 'Better than good, and that's an understatement!' It wasn't until I had seen him several times that I realized he wasn't just a fan of your dad, he was your dad. Greatness. Indeed.

Best, Gregg Steward”

Dad understood clearly that his“what” was to inspire hope and encouragement, so even in greeting people his“how” was incredible so that his“why” would be fulfilled.

You are Born To Win, so go ahead and Live To Win!

Tom
