#398: Q&A: Best product, balance, and mental programming

SUBTITLE:
Three questions from listeners that Tom Ziglar, Kevin Miller, and special guest Carrie Wilkerson cover –

  1. If you were to invest in a product and you had only one choice, what product would that be today?
  2. Can you focus on working mothers, and how they balance family life and entrepreneurial or sales success?
  3. Zig said to yell at the top of your lungs, "I feel happy, I feel healthy, I feel terrific!" It works today when I need to get past the self-doubt I experience occasionally. The show is brought to you in part by Backblaze.com/ziglar, which gives you unlimited cloud backup.

Hello to everyone seeking the fuel that runs everything you do…inspiration. That’s what we have for you today in show 398. It’s our Q&A show, 30 minutes with Tom Ziglar and me, covering topics such as the best product to pursue, balance for working parents, and the power of mental programming. We even have a special guest appearance. This is where the rubber meets the road, real people striving to inspire their…true performance. Here we go:

OK, folks, Q&A time. These are questions directly submitted to us, which YOU can do…two ways.

Now, I’m bringing Tom Ziglar into the show and we’ll dig into some great questions:

Hailey Esser- If you were to invest in a product and you only had one choice, what product would that be today?

  • The one that I had a personal passion about. That I buy personally and think everyone else should. The one I’d buy and give away if I could.
  • The one I truly am an expert at
  • The one where I’m super clear on how it solves a problem for people

Niobe - Can you focus on working mothers, and how they balance family life and entrepreneurial or sales success?

So, this is a great topic, but it occurred to me that, while Tom and I can definitely give some value to the issue from having worked with plenty of moms…we can’t match the counsel coming from a real entrepreneurial and sales rock-star mom. So…I called up Carrie Wilkerson, author of The Barefoot Executive, who was our guest in Show 394, Revealing the Labels that Bind and Free Us.

Here is four minutes of wisdom from Carrie.

Vic: I want to share that Zig Ziglar was part of a sales training session for the Southwestern Publishing Company in Nashville in June of 1972. It was for a group of college students working a summer sales job. I had just completed my freshman year at Mizzou. I was inspired in the many stories that he shared, and to this day will use the self-talk he shared to get my engine started in the morning when it stalls a bit. Zig said to yell at the top of your lungs, "I feel happy, I feel healthy, I feel terrific!" And it worked then, selling Bible books, and it works today when I need to get past the self-doubt I experience occasionally, selling home inspection services.

Self-talk (www.ziglar.com/selftalk), in the time I’ve been with Ziglar, I’ve not heard testimony for anything else more than the self-talk cards.

Mental programming. We have an upcoming show with Dan Harris, ABC News anchor, where a primary platform of his is understanding the brain is a muscle we work out.

We allow mental programming; we just aren’t intentional. Go out to sea and you will move from one place to another. You won’t stay still; you either direct it or…the sea does. And information we let in is not someone speaking direct testimonial to us. Or further…US telling us. This is the most powerful -- and most of us NEVER do it -- the MOST powerful thing, and we don’t do it. That would be like going to a health club with a desire to lose 20 pounds, and the number one machine for doing it sitting right in the middle of the room, that takes no more effort than any other, we just ignore. Because…it’s a bit uncomfortable being in the middle and exposed. Talking to ourselves is embarrassing, even when no one else is there. We’re self-conscious of ourselves.
