Was It An Upset?

I'm going back in time for this story, but it is such a great example, I hope you will indulge me. The score was 17-15 and Northwestern had just beaten Notre Dame to start the 1995 football season. At the time, everyone screamed what a big upset it was, that it was a fluke, an aberration, a can't-happen-but-did type of incident.

Crime, drugs, taxes, divorce, governmental disagreements, corporate break-ups, educational difficulties and a host of other things simply do not fill the bill. We've got something else that we absolutely must worry about - namely, our height.

Theodore Roosevelt, former President of the United States, has been described as founder of the Bull Moose Party, the man who led his troops up San Juan Hill in the Spanish-American War, a big game hunter, family man, civic servant and a host of other things.

Teach Them How to Fish

The saying is old but it's true: "When you give a man a fish you feed him for the day. When you teach him to fish, you feed him for life."

Welfare is repeatedly referred to as a "dead-end street," particularly if it's used for anything more than a safety net on a temporary basis.

He Dropped the Ball

Penn State University won the national championship for 1986 by defeating Miami in the Fiesta Bowl. It was a close, tough game which was decided by inches. However, Penn State came within a whisper of not making it into the championship game when they played Notre Dame that year.
