Today I want to talk to you about the economy.
Not about the economy out there – I want to talk to you about the economy between your ears.
The tougher it is out there, the greater the opportunity we all have.
Now more than ever people are hungry for and in need of people who are solution minded, who are encouragers, and who reach out to help others.
How do you win in this economy?
First, you must transform yourself.
Eighteen months ago I made a choice to put the good stuff into my mind every day. I started listening every day to positive, uplifting material that I chose in advance because I knew it would be good.
Twelve months ago I changed my eating habits and decided to only eat pure/healthy foods. Also 12 months ago I made the choice to change my workout by doing just a little bit more exercise each time I worked out.
Now, each one of these choices I made each day were pretty small, but over time they really add up!
As you can see, the choices I made really transformed the way I look. Week to week you really couldn't tell much, but look at the difference a year makes!
Second, you must outrun the bear.
How many of you have heard the story about the two hikers in the woods who come across the grizzly bear?
The bear is getting ready to charge them when one of the hikers bends down to tie his shoe.
The second hiker asks what he is doing, and the first hiker replies "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you!"
With the right approach this is the advantage you have in a tough economy.
So what is the right approach?
Third, you must be a Zig person.
I think there are basically three kinds of people:
Lost people
These are the people who are pretty much clueless and don't really know or understand what is going on beyond their own little world.
Normal people
These are the majority of the people out there. When things are going good they are generally pretty happy and positive, but when things get a little tough, they really start to go negative. In tough times (or when watching a bunch of travelers navigate customs), you begin to realize that most people are normal. As Dave Ramsey says, don't be normal, be weird!
Zig people
When the going gets tough, Zig people turn it up a notch. They realize that the best thing they can do for themselves and others is to go the extra mile, to really focus on the right attitude, to reach out and lessen the load of others. Zig people are pretty smart; there is absolutely ZERO downside to this approach. Everyone benefits, even in a seemingly hopeless situation. Embracing the Struggle is a way of life for Zig people. They understand that struggle = opportunity. Opportunity to grow, to find a new way, to impact someone else.
Be a Zig person!
Conclusion:
If the economy is "the bear" right now, Zig people understand all they have to do is outrun the normal people.
The best part is Zig people run fastest when they are helping normal people become Zig people.
